This afternoon I had the chance to listen to and photograph Mica Alice for the first time at Stansted Garden Centre and wow, what a lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon.
It is worth remembering just what a great little venue Stansted Garden Centre is for live music. You can grab something to eat or drink, find a seat and enjoy some genuinely talented singers and musicians in a calm and relaxed setting. It is the perfect place for a Friday afternoon chill out session.
Mica is an incredibly talented steel pannist and I could have happily sat there listening for much longer. Sadly I could only stay for her first set, but what I heard was brilliant.
Her set included a great mix of music, from older classics through to modern songs. I particularly enjoyed her versions of Ed Sheeranâs Thinking Out Loud and Elvis Presleyâs Canât Help Falling in Love. Her full repertoire is huge, covering old and new music.
What really stood out was how different familiar songs sound when played on the steel pan. It creates such a warm, relaxing sound while still keeping the melody instantly recognisable. There were also a few people watching closely and taking an interest in the instrument itself and how the steel pan works.
There was a brilliant atmosphere throughout the set. Relaxed, friendly and exactly what live music on a Friday afternoon should be.
Mica would bring an amazing dimension to weddings and private events.
Sometimes you do not realise how much you need an hour of good live music until you sit down and listen. This was exactly what I needed to switch off and chill out on a Friday afternoon.
If you are a local artist, band, venue or event organiser and would like Scenic Eye to capture your event, get in touch.
The aim is simple. Real photos and video that show people what it actually feels like to be there, while helping more people discover the brilliant live music happening locally.
Mica is definitely one to look out for again.
